IXI & JXi Heater Not Igniting – Causes & Fixes
If your AstralPool IXI or Zodiac JXi heater is not igniting, the heater is failing to light the gas burner during startup.
This is one of the most common IXI and JXi heater problems and is usually caused by gas supply issues, ignition component faults, airflow problems, or a shutdown condition detected by the heater’s safety systems.
Because IXI and JXi gas pool heaters use text-based fault messages rather than numeric error codes, it is important to match the startup behaviour with the fault message shown on the display.
Common Reasons an IXI or JXi Heater Will Not Ignite
- No gas supply or low gas pressure
- Faulty igniter or ignition control issue
- Blocked burner or combustion problem
- Fan or airflow issue
- Check Flow fault preventing startup
- High Flue Temperature fault affecting safe operation
If ignition continues to fail, the heater may enter lockout or display a fault such as an dedicated ignition fault message.
What You Can Check First
- Make sure the gas supply is turned on
- Check other gas appliances are operating normally
- Listen for ignition clicking during startup
- Confirm the fan is running
- Make sure the pool pump is running and water is flowing
- Restart the heater once after basic checks
If the heater fails to light and also shows restricted flow behaviour, inspect the Check Flow fault guide.

When to Book a Heater Repair
If your heater will not ignite after these checks, it likely requires professional testing of the gas supply, igniter, airflow systems, or ignition control.
